You will reap the benefits of massage if it becomes a regular part of your life. My goal is for us to work together to take better care of your health, long-term.
Massage is a tool to help 'heal'. Whether it's stress, illness or simply to pamper yourself, the benefits of massage can be life changing. I would be honoured to take that journey with you.
You must understand that any massage therapy including sports and remedial (deep tissue) is for the purpose of pain reduction and relief from muscular tension and spasms. Massage is also successfully used for stress reduction and relief, aids the circulatory system and when combined with exercise or rehab therapy can promote flexibility, rehabilitation and strengthening.
Even as a highly qualified professional you must understand I cannot diagnose illness, disease or any other physical or medical disorders and I will not prescribe medical treatments nor perform spinal manipulations. Please understand that you hold full responsibility for the treatment you receive with me through body works. I will encourage you to seek medical expertise if I believe it is necessary and I hold every right to refuse treatments on medical or 'perceived medical' grounds.
Communication is key, I need to know what you're feeling, experiencing and what you're looking to gain in order for me to best help you. In turn, I will explain the treatment and what you can expect to gain from it.
With the nature of many injuries and dysfunction means that i generally end up using a combination of all the massage treatments in a session depending on each specific client’s needs. There are potentially several reasons why it might not be appropriate to receive a sports & remedial massage treatment, called a medical or sports therapy, 'contraindication'. This will be discussed with you at the time of your initial appointment when a full medial history will be taken and I must stress this is down to you the client to disclose any of the information requested and relevant, so I can best help you, failure to communicate this information or changes to your circumstances could result in injury. If i do not feel that a sports / deep tissue massage is suitable for you i will offer you a differnet treatment or refur you onto a medical proffesional where appropriate.
There are many contraindications that could stop you from being fit to have a massage and this will all be discussed with you at your first appointment. If throughout treatment this changes later on during the course of our partnership together, then it will need to be re-evaluated but it is your responsibility to tell the therapist the truth about your medical history and changes to your circumstances. (injury, medication ect)
It is very normal for you to feel some soreness, aching and sometimes bruising as the result of deep manipulative therapy to the deep soft tissues of the body. This will pass, is completely normal and is the bodies natural way recovery process.
I may advice exercises or stretches as well as general health and wellbeing advice, this again is advice and my personal recomendation to aid you towards a happier healthier pain free life.
